Went thrifting with my mom and man did we haul it in! Land’s End, Gymboree, Old Navy, Osh Kosh, Gap among others, all 100% cotton and in great shape! We got 5 pairs of pants/leggings, 3 dresses, 2 onesies/union suits, 2 long sleeve tshirts, a brand new DK lift the flap animal book all for a pittance. Not quite as good as garage sale prices but it’s a.) air conditioned, important when we are talking about hundred degree heat and b.) all in one place.

Woohoo!!

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963) Eleven years from my birth.

2. Where were you when man first walked on the moon: Apollo 11 (7/20/69) Moving up now, only five years out.

3. When Mt. St. Helen’s blew (5/18/1980) Don’t quite remember. I was in kindergarten.

4. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986) Sixth grade. The teacher was late, and she rushed in without a word, panicked look on her face. There was a stereo in the room and she ran to it, shushing us urgently, and turned it on, and we heard “…the Challenger shuttle has just exploded…”

5. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989) Quite worried because my friend Kris lived just outside of SF. I couldn’t get through for weeks, it seemed like. She thoughtfully sent out mass postcards saying she and family were fine.

6. When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989) Sophomore in high school. I saw it on tv and tacked up the newspaper with the big pic of it to my wall.

7. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991) Dating a boy who was nervous he would be drafted.

8. When the first World Trade Center bombing happened (2/26/1993)
Working at a bookstore. It seemed far away and unreal. I felt no fear.

9. When OJ sped off in the White Bronco.(6/17/1994)
I’m pretty sure we went to see The Lion King that same night, with the aforementioned draft-scared boy and the twins John and Jerry.

10. When the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995) A few miles away. The blast woke me up.

11. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997) I thought they were crazy. It was late at night and they broke in with it. I was really impressed with the outpouring of love for her.

12. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000) In my livingroom, watching my husband grin.

13. When terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center (9/11/2001) Watching Teletubbies on tape. When we got in the car to take Sean to work we heard it on NPR, and were unsure what they were talking about. It soon became clear. I ‘heard’ the first tower fall, saw the rest on TV.

Faith calls to me from the other room, gleefully:

Ha! That’s Jim Lehrer on Between the Lions! He’s sposed to be on the NewsHour! That’s so funny! And he was with Lara Spencer in that girl’s room with Arthur, too! What a silly man, Mama!

I guess we do watch a lot of PBS!

We went to the shallow-depth pool by my house - it goes from 1ft7in to about 3ft7in. We stayed in the 1ft end. I was alone with four children who had never really been in a swimming pool, and I was a little flustered but nobody drowned or even came close. The most dangerous part was when the pool attendant made us all sign in and Bede took off as soon as I let go of his hand (after the pool girl said she would watch him while I wrote) and nearly fell into the pool. But other than that it was largely uneventful, if full of splutters.

I had told a couple homeschooling lists that I’m on that we were going and everyone please come too and nuffin. Nobody came but us. Ah well. I shall keep trying! Unschoolers of Oklahoma City you cannot hide!

I’ve never been to Starbucks.

UPDATE: There are only 15 Starbucks within 50 miles of me. I’m told this is a low number for an area with well over a million people in it. Whyn’t you look for yourself, within 50 miles, and post your number? Starbucks density, I think they call it.

So as the mother of two, ah, gender-typical girls there has long been a clamor for ‘ballet school’ around here. This Fall, Faith will be attending at StarDanceSwan in The Paseo.

And boy oh boy is she ever excited!

http://www.thepaseo.com/midsum.html has some nifty pictures.

It sure looks like our kind of place. Thanks to Trina for telling us about them.

Our blog is back! Yay!

We’ve been having fun while we were away from our bloggy home.

Abby turned FOUR! while no one was looking - but then we had a great party! She got lots of nice things and we even took pictures.

Emily came to visit. She’s my niece and she’s AWESOME! She spent the last year in Central America working on farms and building houses. We were thrilled to see her as she passed through OKC on her way home.

We are all finally getting over a nasty virus and hope to rejoin the world of the healthy soon. Summer colds are so bleah!

OK, I might even share some super secret private journal entries with yall that I wrote while we were away. But you’ll have to wait a bit.
