I got the ends done on Slytherin. I totally cheated and (here, knitting purists will wish to avert their eyes) tied the ends in knots. They’re on the inside of a tube and will never see the light of day.
Now I have to fringe the ends. I’m three-fourths done with the cast-off edge. It takes a bit of time because the ends are not closed and the fringe is closing them, so I have to line up the stitches from each side as I put in each fringey bit. I’m using two strands of yarn for each section of fringe instead of three, also. It really looks great (which is good because lining it up is a real pain in the tuckus.)
UPDATE: Completed fringe on one end!
Eek! It’s bigger than Hogwarts! Look out, Norbert!
Stats: PoA Slytherin, modified atypically pattern (CO 60 on sz9US), in Lion Wool-Ease worsted green heather and grey heather.

So yesterday our friend Renee came over with her littles and stayed for most of the day. The kids had a good time, as usual, with only a few minor spats. Abaigeal is sensitive about things sometimes (moreso than the other kids I mean) and that caused a snag but overall it was really a good time for all the kids. Z was sick and on the slower side but he didn’t let it keep him down.
Faith and S play together very well too, and Bede and Gil sort of meander around the edges of the bigger kids. It’s a fun place to be, is the Gleeson house on Tuesdays.
Tomorrow is the first playdate for the Yahoo! group I started. We’ve got 24 members so far, and with luck at least a few of them will want to drag to McDonald’s for an afternoon. It’s odd that a bunch of crunchies would go to McDonald’s I guess, but it’s for the playground, not the food. As Tabitha says, it’s coldy!
Today though, I have few set plans. I’ll be keeping the children out of Sean’s way as he does some wiring work around the house (and I’m going to ask him to dig out a light string to hang in the livingroom too, since we won’t have an inside tree this year in there) and trying to tidy the kitchen (it boggles the mind how messy it gets after Tuesdays, and it wasn’t clean to start with!)
And I’ll knit a bit too.

Faith and Abby and I decorated a bit for Christmas today. I drew a very simple representation of a stranded Christmas light (oval + rounded-corner box + fat curvy line connecting to next ‘bulb’) and printed out about ten sheets of them, going across the top of the page lengthwise, and the girls colored them in. Then we taped them together and put them up over our sofa.
I’m so pleased that I thought of doing that! It was very fun. Bede wanted to do one too and started one but then fell asleep midway through. He loves coloringcoloringcoloringCOLORING!

I have twelve rows left and then I’m done knitting Slytherin!
After I finish knitting, I’ll be weaving in the ends (there are almost too many to count, eek!) and adding the fringey bits on the ends.
Stats: PoA Slytherin, modified atypically pattern (CO 60 on sz9US), in Lion Wool-Ease worsted green heather and grey heather.
EDIT: There are 79 ends remaining to weave in. I knit in a few as I went and didn’t care for the results, so those will be torn back and duplicate stitched in like the others. I was virtuous and wove them in as I went for the first few bars.

In the past, I have been able to lure Faith and Abby away from the more (in my mind) inappropriate cartoon offerings of Saturday morning. We’ve been a Nick Jr household for years. Today, for the first time, Faith wanted to watch Bratz instead of the innocuous Lazy Town.
Sigh.
But I won’t buy the hoochie dolls, in their teen or infant persuasions. And here’s another abomination: Bratz Ponyz.
Ugh.

Like most of the blogosphere I haven’t been posting too much because a.) I’m still too full of rich food, b.) I have houseguests, and c.) I’m plumb tuckered!
I didn’t buy anything, inadvertently complying with Buy Nothing Day. But then, I frequently have Buy Nothing months (maybe years!), so you know, it was no big deal. Sean went to the grocery store and bought spaghetti sauce today though. Is one permitted to buy food on Buy Nothing Day? Hmm.

Sean and Bede are sleeping together on the futon in the livingroom and they look so hapy and cozy all snuggled up.
I’m off to snuggle up with Gil, and Faith and Abby are in a big pile on their new (handmedown, of course!) queen mattress from my folks, who just got one of those fancy memory foam mattresses and had to wait exactly 0.087 seconds for me to say “Canwehaveyouroldoneplease?”
What a nice Napping House we have!
